Syrian Wild Lens…

🐸 The Night Soldier of Syria… Meet the “Common Green Toad”
In the middle of last night, exactly at 12:00 AM…
During a night monitoring session through the lens of Syrian Wild Lens…
This camouflaged creature surprised us with its calm appearance.
It is the Common Green Toad, one of the most prominent native amphibians that has shared life with us in the Syrian environment, from plains and meadows… to areas near residential communities.
🎖️ Military Camouflage Engineering
This toad possesses thick, rough skin full of warts and protruding bumps, with a stunning color pattern resembling military uniform (distinctive olive and green spots distributed on a gray or white background).
What is astonishing… is that it can partially adjust the color degree of its skin to match temperature and ambient lighting, to protect it from predators!
🌾 Hero of Environmental Balance and Farmer’s Friend
This creature is not just a passing shape… it is a “natural pesticide” of superior efficiency.
It emerges at night to search for food, targeting insects, worms, mollusks, and larvae.
Its presence in any agricultural or wild area… reflects the health of the ecosystem, and suppresses pest reproduction in a balanced way.
⚠️ Chemical Defense Tactic
If some predatory animals (like reptiles and snakes) become curious to eat it… they fall into a big dilemma.
The toad possesses glands behind its eyes (called parotid glands) that secrete white toxic substances for protection.
This substance is completely safe on healthy human skin, but causes severe irritation to mucous membranes if it touches the eyes or mouth.
Therefore… it is always preferable to admire it, and not to hold it with the hand.
🤔 What Is the Difference Between It and the Traditional Frog?
Many confuse them, but the differences are clear:
🔸 The Frog: Its skin is smooth and moist, its legs are long, and it spends most of its time in or very close to water.
🔸 The Toad: Its skin is dry and rough, its legs are short suited for walking more than high jumping, and it tolerates living in dry wild areas far from water, returning to it only during mating season.
